Volunteering
Volunteering at the Potter League can be lots of fun. If you are 15 years or older, you may volunteer on your own. If you are younger than 15, you must have an adult come with you. This is a great way for a family to spend time together helping the animals. If you are interesting in volunteering, please visit the shelter to fill our a volunteer application and to sign up for our volunteer information class.

The most common activities for junior volunteers and their families are walking and exercising dogs, playing with puppies and brushing the dogs. Cat loves enjoy petting and playing with kittens and cats to give them some time out of their cages. We also have a foster care program where a volunteer family can care for a litter of kittens in their own home.

Donating Items
Many of our young supporters like to help the Potter League by organizing a collection of items we need. Check with your teacher, youth group leader or church group leader to see if you may organize a drive. The items we most need are paper towels, dog and cat toys, dog chewies and rawhides, Little Friskies or 9 Lives canned cat food, small dog treats and hot dogs.

Walk for the Animals
Our Heart and Sole Walk for the Animals is a major fundraiser for the Potter League and you can help by asking friends, family and neighbors to support you in your Walk for the Animals. The Walk is scheduled for June 2, 2002. Call 846-8276 or e-mail us to make sure we mail you a brochure. The Walk for the Animals is a fun event that you can bring your dog too. There are all kinds of doggie games and activities.

Spread the Word
Talk to your friends and family about being kind to animals. Set an example by being kind yourself. Also speak up about spaying and neutering and adopting from an animal shelter. Visit our website to view our adoptable animals.

Programs and Shelter Tours
The Potter League for Animals visits third grade and seventh grade classrooms in Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth with special lessons on being kind to animals. We also offer tours of the animal shelter to schools and youth groups.
