Dog Training Classes & Play Groups

Below is a schedule of upcoming dog training classes, specialty classes & play groups
to be held at the Potter League's indoor Behavior and Training Center
located at 87 Oliphant Lane in Middletown, RI.

All classes and groups listed below are open to the public!

To pre register, please email Jill or call 401 846-8276 ext 122 Monday through Friday.
If you are visiting this site on a weekend and would like information about attending a class on that same weekend, please call 846-8276 ext 100 to speak with our front desk staff.

Proof of your dog's vaccinations is required for participation.
Children 6 years and older are welcome in classes when accompanied
by an adult, unless noted otherwise.

Pre registration is required for ALL classes and play groups.
Please notify us in advance if you must cancel your class registration.

Below is a description of our classes:

Puppy 1 & Puppy 2	Our age-appropriate Puppy Classes focus on bonding, house & crate training, nipping, chewing, and jumping. Our instructor(s) will introduce basic obedience. Instruction includes supervision & management skills as well as socialization & handling. Owners learn to understand & effectively deal with the stages of puppy development.
Basic Obedience	Our Basic Obedience class is for adolescent & adult dogs with no prior training. This class will reinforce good behaviors while extinguishing unwanted ones. Learn & review basic obedience. Important social skills will also be introduced.
Small Breed Obedience	This class is specially designed for small dogs & their unique personalities. Join other small dogs & their humans for an action-packed class. Learn to reinforce good behaviors & eliminate negative ones.
Agility	How often do you get to 'just have fun' with your dog? Join us and to run obstacles such as: jumps, hoops, weaving, etc...It's a great way for you & your dog to bond, play, & work on obedience in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere - all at your own pace! Agility builds confidence and is great for shy dogs.
Doggy-O	Doggy-O is a cross between obedience & agility! Talking, praise, & rewarding are encouraged. This class is held in a relaxed & informal environment. Perfect for beginners, timid, high strung, or unsure dogs.
Clicker	It's fun, fast & positive! Clicker training is an all positive method of training to deepen the bond with your dog. Whether you have a puppy, juvenile or adult - learn to "click" for good behaviors & ignore the bad. Clicker included! 1 week or 2 week class offered.
Dancing with your Dog! (formerly called Freestyle)	Come and learn some fun & interactive dance moves to do with your dog (freestyling)!
Leash Reactive Please Note: Though Leash Reactive is a 3-week class, not all weeks are consecutive. Please be aware of your class dates and times.	This class is for dogs who are reactive (lunging, barking, growling) toward other dogs when on leash. Learn calming techniques, how to manage your dog when on-leash around other dogs, and how to teach your dog to react more appropriately when he sees another dog. This class does not address aggression towards humans or dogs who are only aggressive towards other dogs when off-leash. Prefer to attend without your dog? Because we are aware that a leash-reactive dog is distracting & hard to control, we do provide the opportunity to observe, learn and ask questions even if you choose to leave your dog at home. Observation slots are limited. Fee is same. This class requires a phone consultation with a trainer before being placed on the class roster. Please call our pre-registration phone number to be put in touch with a trainer.
Recall	Learn the most important command you can teach your dog...to come when called - even outside. It could save his or her life.
Shy Dog	This class will teach you techniques to help your shy dog gain confidence and live a happy and social life!
Loose-Leash Walking	Is walking your dog a real drag??? If so, then join us and learn techniques that will guarantee a pleasant walk for you and your dog!
Senior Dog	You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Keep your older dog's mind and body in good shape. Obedience lessons and exercises will be geared to you and your dog's abilities.
Manners	Wow your friends and family by showing them just how well your dog behaves! During this one-time class, you will work on commands such as; sit for greeting, settle, attention, wait, & more!
Boot Camp	The next best thing to private lessons at a fraction of the cost! Join us for a refresher on obedience exercises or learn to correct a specific problem working at your own pace by spending constructive time with your canine companion. We will offer tips on your own specific requests. In addition, a different skill will be taught at each class.
Walk and Wag Club	This walking club is for dogs who have mastered some leash training skills. Dogs should be able to walk calmly in a crowd & be people and dog friendly. Walkers will practice meeting & greeting, maneuvering around obstacles & other intermediate leash skills. Meeting every other Friday evening, this club offers socialization as well as training. Our walk and waggers walk outdoors on the beautiful Potter League property while practicing leash skills. Handlers must be 18 years or older. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and shoes
Canine Good Citizen EVALUATION	Interested in earning a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certificate? Would you like your dog to be a companion for all people; to be a respected member of the community, to behave at home, in public & around other dogs? Sign up for a free evaluation with an accredited AKC CGC evaluator. Your dog will be evaluated on certain commands and behaviors. Certificates will be issued upon successful completion of the evaluation. For those who do not successfully complete the evaluation, the evaluator will consult with you and may recommend specific training.
*PLAY GROUP - INFO AND UPDATES	Beginning August 1, 2010 the fee to attend Playgroups will increase to: $7.00 per playgroup per dog Also beginning August 1, 2010, we will be offering PUNCH CARDS for Playgroup attendees. How do you get your free play group???? Purchase a $70 punch card for 10 playgroups and you get the 11^th free! Punch cards will be available for purchase during any playgroup during the week of July 26^th or by contacting Jill at JillH@PotterLeague.org or calling 401.846.8276 ext. 122
PUPPY Play Group	Bring your puppy to play with friends his/her own age! A great way to work off that "puppy energy" and teach your puppy how to get along with others!
Small Breed Play Group Kids 8 yrs & older are welcome when accompanied by an adult.	Here's your opportunity to give your dog all the fun with none of the "big" guy intimidation! Small dogs interact in a supervised, safe environment with appropriate play.
