SUMMARY:2022 Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, January 26\, from 5:30 until 7:30 pm at the Wyndham Newport Hotel for the Potter League for Animals’ year-end review and a special presentation by Dr. Michelle Crossley\, PhD\, LMHC\, NCC\, an Assistant Professor at Rhode Island College. \nLight refreshments will be served\, and a cash bar will be available. Free & open to the public. Please consider RSVP’ing below. Hope to see you there! \n\nDr. Michelle Crossley is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Rhode Island College. She completed her doctoral studies in Counseling and Counselor Education at North Carolina State University; the title of her dissertation was Pet loss and human bereavement: A phenomenological study of attachment and the grieving process. She recently co-authored an article that was published in the Human-Animal Interactions Journal titled Overcoming the social stigma of losing a pet: Considerations for counseling professionals. \nDuring the collection of her data for her dissertation\, she found the Association for Pet Loss and bereavement and began volunteering with the organization as the newsletter editor and board member in 2012. Since then\, she has worked with the organization to revise their Pet Loss Grief Specialist Training\, began a professional support group for pet loss and veterinary professionals\, and serves as the current Vice-President. \nAs a native Rhode Islander\, Dr. Crossley and her family moved back to RI in 2012\, where she began working in the mental health field. She became independently licensed in 2017 and began a small private practice in Pawtucket\, RI. She also serves as the President of the Rhode Island Mental Health Counselors Association and advocated for legislative changes to benefit mental health delivery in RI. \nDr. Crossley lives in northern RI with her partner of 14 years\, three children\, and three dogs.
