Every year, in honor of Be Kind to Animals Week, the Potter League invites students 2nd-12th grade to enter our Be Kind to Animals Poster Contest! Students have the opportunity to express their creativity and illustrate what they think it means to be kind to animals.
Be Kind to Animals Week is celebrated each year during the first week in May. It is a great opportunity to celebrate our love of animals and remember the importance of kindness, compassion and empathy for our furry, feathered and finned friends.
If teachers wish to have a short lesson on the history of humane education or kindness to animals provided as an introduction to the project, please contact our Humane Educator.
If you choose not to use the contest as a class project, students may enter independently.
The deadline for entry is April 7th. Winners will be notified in advance for planning purposes. Prizes will be awarded to students at an event at the Potter League during Be Kind to Animals Week.
Responsible Care for Pets
Pets deserve to be in homes with loving families that keep them healthy AND happy. Responsible owners make sure their fur babies have the right food, fresh water, a safe and warm bed. What else do pets need? Winning entries will display pets getting the love and care they need.
Wildlife Tales: True or False?
One of the humans’ favorite past-times is telling stories featuring the wild animals around us. But these stories often make gentle creatures out to be beasts, while true dangers are disguised as pleasant critters. Ponder the stories you’ve heard about wild animals and reflect on how you perceive them. Winning entries will highlight wildlife myth versus fact.
Posters will be judged based on appearance, creativity, and demonstration of the theme. Winners will be chosen for each theme in 3 age groups: Grades 2 – 4, Grades 5 – 8, and Grades 9 – 12.
Winners and their families will be acknowledged via email and on our social media during Be Kind to Animals Week – the first full week in May. Winners will receive a ribbon, award certificate, and Potter League memorabilia mailed to them. Winning Posters will be displayed in the Potter League Animal Care & Adoption Center.
