Each month, Potter League for Animals offers Potter Pet University, a lecture series all about animals, pet care, and other similar topics relevant to the community.
We believe pets and people belong together, and we’re invested in the relationship between humans and their animals. We’re here for you throughout the different stages of your pet’s life, and if you’re in need of help for your pet.
Whether you’re bringing a newborn animal home, merging multi-pet households, dog behavior to wildlife rehabilitation, each session brings in a new guest speaker and topic. Check the calendar for the next event that speaks to your needs.
Potter Pet University is usually held on the second Wednesday night of the month at 6pm.

Potter Pet University presents “Oh, for Pet’s Sake!: What Is Preventive Care & Why Does My Pet Need It?”
Presented by Dr. Amelia Sikora, DVM, Director of Shelter Medicine, Potter League for Animals
Why is routine preventative care for your pet essential? Preventative care for your pet is critical to maintaining their overall health and avoiding unwanted and even life-threatening illness. In most cases, preventative care requires a routine visit to your vet to complete a wellness exam, get needed vaccinations, treat or test for potential parasites, and receive prescription medications.
It’s easy to skip a year, especially when you face challenges in scheduling your pet’s appointment. Veterinarians across the country are still managing an increase in demand for services while trying to meet that demand with fewer staff. Remember the old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?” Those wise words directly relate to the healthcare of our pets. Avoiding illness is always better than treating it, so join us as Dr. Sikora explores and explains all the ways to “prevent” rather than “cure.”
Humans only, please! Free and open to the public.
