The holiday season is a time for love, warmth, and togetherness—and you can make it even brighter by welcoming a dog into your home for a holiday foster sleepover. By opening your heart and home, you’re giving an adult shelter dog the gift of comfort while helping us create space for more animals in need.
What is a Howliday Houseguest?
The Howliday Houseguest is a short-term fostering program where you welcome a Potter League dog into your home during the holiday season. It’s a chance to provide them with the comfort of a loving home while giving yourself the joy of companionship—and it makes a big difference in their life!
- Dates: December 22-27 (If you’d like to foster longer, please just let us know.)
- Duration: 2-5 days, based on your availability
- Support: We provide everything you need—food, supplies, and support.
- Placement: Dogs are placed on a first-come, first-served, & best-fit basis.
You’ll also have the opportunity to meet your potential foster to ensure you’re comfortable with the match. If you have another dog at home, we’ll ask that you bring them along for an introduction.
Why Foster During the Holidays?

Who Can Foster?
If you’re 18 years or older, live in a pet-friendly home within 40 miles of our Animal Care & Adoption Center in Middletown, and have some time to dedicate to a dog, we’d love to have you as a foster! No prior fostering experience? No problem—our team will guide you through every step.
Note: The sign-up form and the dogs available for fostering will go live on December 15.

What If You Fall in Love?
If you and your family fall head-over-paws in love with your holiday foster dog and decide you can’t imagine life without them, we’d be thrilled to help you make it official. Here’s how it works:
- Let Us Know: Contact us as soon as you feel ready to adopt.
- Priority Placement: As their foster family, you’ll have priority to adopt your foster dog.
- Finalize the Adoption: We’ll guide you through the adoption process, ensuring everything is smooth and straightforward.
By adopting your foster dog, you’re giving them the ultimate holiday gift: a loving, lifelong home.
